2000 years ago today, Jesus of Nazareth entered Jerusalem. Though he entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, people shouted Hosanna, Hosanna, which means “Save now “ because they were waiting for a saviour who will bring them healing, freedom, life, and power. Today we are gathered at the centre of this city, raising our voices for people who are most deprived, not only in our society, but also in our whole human society, refugees and Asylum seekers. Uniting Church in Australia is committed to care for and support people seeking asylum and refugees and call on the Australian Government to end the harsh and punitive policies and work positively in the region to develop a genuine multilateral protection solution.
On behalf of the Uniting Church in Australia in this state and the Australia Capital Territory , I raise my voice. I raise my voice for a just society where the strangers are cared for and the oppressed experience freedom. As a follow of Christ, I am called to love our neighbour, so I welcome the strangers in our midst ! As a migrant who made Australia home and home for my two beautiful Irish – Korean –Australian daughters I raise my voice for the refugees and Asylum seekers who like me are also made in the image of God and have the same rights like you and me to live where they find a home and provide a safe future for their children. As a Korean Australian I love Australia, a country I made my home, and I have absolutely no hesitation to say that Refugees and Asylum seekers who come here will make Australia their home and will enrich Australian society.
Australia is one of the wealthiest, safest and most secure countries in the world. But the more important thing is the Spirit of Australia, the people who cared this bountiful land encourage us to welcome strangers to the land. It is our turn now to welcome Refugees and Asylum seekers to Australia. God bless you all and God bless the refugees and the Asylum seekers to find their safe home in our midst !
2천년 전 오늘 나사렛 예수가 예루살렘에 입성하셨습니다. 나귀를 타고 입성하셨는데도 사람들은 '우리를 구하소서'라는 뜻을 의미하는 '호산나, 호산나'를 외쳐댔습니다. 자신들에게 치유와 자유와 생명과 권세를 가져다 줄 구원자를 기다리고 있었기 때문입니다. 오늘 우리는 이 도시 한복판에 모여 우리 사회에서 뿐만 아니라 모든 인류 사회에서 가장 소외받는 난민들과 망명자들을 위하여 우리의 목소리를 높이려는 것입니다. 호주연합교단은 난민들을 돌보고 지원하고 있으며 호주정부로 하여금 가혹하고 처벌적인 정책을 종식하고 진실되고 다각적인 보호 해결책을 개선하는데 적극적으로 임할 것을 촉구하는 일에 헌신을 다하고 있습니다.
NSW주와 수도권의 호주연합교단을 대표하여 저는 목소리를 드높입니다. 낯선자들이 보호를 받고 억압받는 자들이 자유를 경험하는 정의 사회를 위하여 저의 목소리를 외치려 합니다. 아이랜드계의 호주 한인인 제 귀한 두 딸과 나에게 조국이 된 호주의 이민자로서 저와 같이 하나님의 형상으로 창조되고 여러분과 저와 똑같은 권리를 갖고 있는 난민들과 망명자들이 자신들의 집을 찾은 곳에서 살고 자녀들에게는 안전한 미래를 제공할 수 있도록 저는 목소리를 외치는 것입니다.
호주의 한인으로서 나에게 조국이 되어버린 호주를 저는 사랑합니다. 그리고 이곳에 온 난민들과 망명자들도 호주를 자신들의 집으로 삼아 호주 사회를 풍성하게 하리라는 것을 자신 있게 말할 수 있습니다.
